Description

The Strategic Communications Specialist will be responsible for building and maintaining Fervo’s communications and public relations strategy. Although the general understanding of geothermal energy has increased dramatically in recent years, Fervo still has significant opportunity to strengthen its brand among policymakers, investors, customers, and suppliers. This role provides a unique opportunity to shape the narrative around one of the world’s fastest growing climate tech companies; defining key messages, target audiences and communication channels to align with the company’s goals. The Strategic Communications Specialist will report to the Vice President of Strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Create and manage comprehensive communications initiatives that align with the organization’s goals and objectives and enhance Fervo’s brand and the general public’s understanding of geothermal energy
  • Draft written internal and external communications materials, including but not limited to memoranda, blogs, pamphlets, press releases, and op-eds
  • Prepare and implement crisis communication plans to effectively manage and mitigate reputational damage during emergencies and challenging situations
  • Organize special events, including but not limited to groundbreaking ceremonies, investor days, and local community engagements
  • Manage the organization’s social media presence (company website and social media pages), including content creation, posting schedules, and engagement with followers to build and maintain Fervo’s online presence
  • Manage the oversight of our external public relations firm, ensuring their work is timely, of high quality, and aligns with our corporate communications goals
  • Build and maintain relationships with journalists, editors, and media outlets to secure positive media coverage

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or related field
  • Passion for addressing climate change and accelerating the clean energy transition
  • 3-5 years of professional experience in a corporate communications environment; clean energy or climate communications preferred
  • Experience with graphic design and social media management preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication
  • A creative thinker with exemplary attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Willingness to plan and execute with little oversight
  • Ability to quickly absorb and simplify technical information
