Strategic Lead, Direct Air Capture

The Strategic Lead, Direct Air Capture will design and build a company strategy to co-locate geothermal energy projects with DAC facilities, building on Fervo’s preliminary analysis.

Decarbonizing the energy sector is an urgent challenge, and with the right technology, geothermal energy can play a central role. We are expanding our team to help make this vision a reality. Fervo Energy has developed technology to make geothermal power scalable and cost-effective. Join us and work alongside world-class engineers, researchers, investors, and developers in making geothermal a key pillar of our climate-friendly energy future.

Description

Fervo is seeking a highly self-motivated individual to lead its Direct Air Capture (DAC) efforts. The Strategic Lead, Direct Air Capture will design and build a company strategy to co-locate geothermal energy projects with DAC facilities, building on Fervo’s preliminary analysis. A successful candidate will spearhead Fervo’s work on evaluating and planning the implementation of DAC + geothermal solutions that could dramatically impact Fervo’s future growth profile and expand the company’s ability to address climate change. The Strategic Lead will report to the Vice President of Strategy.

Requirements

  • Evaluate and identify opportunities to strengthen Fervo’s proposed technical and commercial approach to integrating DAC with its geothermal facilities to deliver cost-effective, net-negative-emission, next-gen geothermal + DAC facilities
  • Advance Fervo’s intellectual property strategy for combined geothermal + DAC systems
  • Manage process engineering and system design work for facility integration plans
  • Work collaboratively with innovative DAC companies to understand their technology and evaluate potential technology partnerships
  • Incorporate economic analysis into technical decision making to demonstrate cost-per-tonne of carbon captured
  • Work with the subsurface team to explore carbon storage opportunities in Fervo’s geothermal acreage portfolio that focuses on permanence and verifiability
  • Build a path to scaling Fervo’s carbon removal approach as it builds an increasing number of geothermal facilities
  • Apply for and manage external grants that target DAC feasibility and design
  • Work with the policy team to identify new funding opportunities, construct potentially beneficially advocacy positions, and characterize the community benefits of combined geothermal + DAC facilities

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in combination of engineering, strategy, and finance
  • Proficient understanding of technical and commercial aspects of DAC
  • Some proficiency in financial modeling
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A high degree of organization, creativity, and self-motivation
